Type O Negative singer Dead

Type O Negative singer Peter Steele passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 48. His cause of death has not been officially confirmed, but according to CBS News, band manager Mike Renault sent an e-mail saying, "Peter passed away last night. As of now it appears to have been heart failure. That's all the details we have right now."

At 6 foot 7, Steele was quite an imposing bassist and frontman for his Brooklyn-based Goth band. He formed Type O after stints in several other groups, including Carnivore and Fallout. But it was with Type O that Steele achieved the most success, as the band brought Roadrunner Records its first-ever Gold selling album with Bloody Kisses, driven by the single "Black No. 1." Type O released seven studio albums, with their most recent being 2007's Dead Again on the SPV/Steamhammer label.
