Rage Against the Machine are reportedly working on a new studio album.

The news was released in an interview by vocalist Zack de la Rocha with the Chilean newspaper La Tercera.

"We are working on a new album due out next year, perhaps for the northern hemisphere summer," he told the paper.

De la Rocha also noted that the band has matured as they have gotten older. The group's members, who reunited for various festival performances in 2007, have made a string of solo appearances in the last few months. Guitarist Tom Morello played on Conan O'Brien's show with Ben Harper and Dhani Harrison's band Fistful of Mercy.

Rage Against the Machine's last album, The Battle of Los Angeles, was released in 1999.

Led Zeppelin up-date

TMD has obtained an extremely rare soundboard recording of Led Zeppelin performing “Black Dog” in Mannheim, Germany on 7/3/80. The song’s title is reportedly a direct reference to a black Labrador retriever that was seen wandering around the Headley Grange studios during the track’s recording.

Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones wrote the classic tune’s main riff. He further explains:

“I wanted to try an electric blues with a rolling bass part. But it couldn’t be too simple. I wanted it to turn back on itself. I showed it to the guys, and we fell into it. We struggled with the turn-around, until (John) Bonham figured out that you just four-time as if there’s no turn-around. That was the secret.”

Def Leppard up-date

Gerry Rafferty dead at 63

Scottish singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty has died at the age of 63 after suffering a long illness.

His career high came in the 1970s and included the anthemic 'Baker Street' and 'Stuck in the Middle with You', recorded with his band Stealers Wheel.

Rafferty had battled a drink problem and spent time in hospital in Bournemouth with liver failure

Rockers Names...

Bono
Born: Paul David Hewson
Supposedly named after a Dublin hearing-aid shop called Bono Vox -- Latin for "good voice." His U2 bandmate the Edge got his own nickname from either his sharp facial features or his fearlessness of heights, depending on which version you believe.

Snoop Dogg
Born: Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr.
Snoop Dogg was nicknamed "Snoopy" by his mom for his love of the 'Peanuts' comic strip. If the original Snoopy was, in fact, a little bit gangsta, 'Doggystyle,' we presume, was not quite what Charles Schulz had in mind.

Marilyn Manson
Born: Brian Hugh Warner
Marilyn Manson combined Marilyn Monroe with Charles Manson, of course. His bandmate Twiggy Ramirez (Jeordie White) combined the names of the slender '60s fashion icon and the serial killer Richard Ramirez. Most of the various band members have taken similarly titillating monikers – Daisy Berkowitz, Madonna Wayne Gacy, Gidget Gein...

Billy Idol
Born: William Michael Albert Broad
A teacher once marked a report card for young Bill with the comment, "William is idle." After his career went multiplatinum in the 1980s, this textbook bad boy fell off the map, going 12 album-less years before a 2005 comeback. Once again, Billy was, in fact, idle.

Elton John
Born: Reginald Kenneth Dwight
Sir Reg's early band was Bluesology, featuring saxophonist Elton Dean and frontman Long John Baldry. In 1972, he legally changed his name to Elton Hercules John, despite never having shared a band with any Hercules.

Sting
Born: Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner
Playing in a jazz band, the young Gordo once wore a black-and-yellow striped shirt that made him look like a bumblebee. "My children call me Sting, my mother calls me Sting," he once joked, after being addressed by his given name. "Who is this Gordon character?"

Freddie Mercury
Born: Farrokh Bulsara
Born in Zanzibar to a Zoroastrian family of Indian descent, the man who would be Queen began calling himself Freddie while at boarding school near Bombay, where he started a band called the Hectics.

Flea
Born: Michael Peter Balzary
Like Sting, another product of the Flying Pest school of rock nicknames. The Red Hot Chili Pepper's stage name was bestowed for his high-strung nature by high school buddy Anthony Kiedis on a ski trip.

Alice Cooper
Born: Vincent Furnier
Original band the Spiders switched their name to Alice Cooper, conjured, according to the record company, through a Ouija board encounter with a medieval witch of the same name. In 1974, Furnier legally adopted the name, keeping it for his solo career.

Vince Neil DUI up-date

Dave Toplikar of The Las Vegas Sun reports that Motley Crue vocalist Vince Neil was to have had his bench trial on a criminal drunken driving charge on Thursday (January 6th) in Las Vegas Justice Court.

But a spokeswoman for the the Clark County District Attorney's office confirmed today (January 3rd) the trial has been reset for 9am January 26th before newly elected Justice of the Peace William Kephart.

Neil, who lives in Las Vegas, faces a speeding and a drunken driving charge from an incident last June after leaving the Las Vegas Hilton in his 2008 black Lamborghini.

A Metro police officer stopped Neil about 11pm June 27th, 2010, for speeding and weaving between lanes on Desert Inn Road west of Paradise Road, which is near the Las Vegas Strip.

Neil told the officer that he had three glasses of champagne, but he didn't know when his last drink was.

The officer said Neil failed three standard drunken driving physical tests, which measure horizontal eye movement, the ability to walk and turn heel to toe, and the ability to stand on one leg for 30 seconds, he was given a breath test.

Neil's readings from the test were 0.215 and 0.216, compared to the legal limit of 0.08, the officer said. Neil was booked into jail and was released the next day on $2,000 bail.

Shania Twain and Frédéric Thiébaud got married in Puerto Rico on New Year's Day. "They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends," says the rep.

Thiebaud, a Nestle executive, quietly popped the question several months prior with a 3-carat, emerald-cut Lorraine Schwartz rock worth an estimated $100,000.

The couple became romantically involved in 2009, finding solace with each other after their spouses allegedly had an affair, breaking up both marriages.
